Passitopa, Ponca Indian Man
Description
Passitopa ("Four") was another of the three Ponca men taken on board the Yellow Stone on May 11. A brother of the chief Schuh-De-Ga-Che (see Plate 171), Passitopa had recently achieved some renown for protecting a white friend from an attack by another Indian. He is dressed in everyday garb for this unexpected portrait, his only visible ornament a neckband of bright ribbon or beads.
