Baton Rouge on the Mississippi
Description
Bodmer's pencil sketch of Baton Rouge as viewed from the river was probably made when he stopped here for a few days on his return from New Orleans. Bodmer later reported to Maximilian that the Mississippi was very broad between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, "and especially in the evening resembles a lake... The water is loam colored and thick."
